\u201cIf God exists, then why does He allow the innocent to suffer?\u201d is a question that has been asked by many a skeptic. It\u2019s a good question. And, it should not be posed by just skeptics or atheists trying to bolster their position. It should be a question that all Christians ask, and consider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether you are a Christian or not, the historical novel Silence<\/em> by Sh\u016bsaku End\u014d just might change your perspective on suffering of innocents and the God of the Bible. Silence<\/em> was originally published in Japanese, but William Johnston\u2019s English translation loses nothing of the novel\u2019s intended impact. You can get it here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In November, Martin Scorsese\u2019s adaptation of Silence<\/em> is scheduled for release. Scorsese is talented. But, End\u014d is an artist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I highly recommend that you read Silence<\/em>, reread Silence<\/em>, and then decide if End\u014d\u2019s answer to the existence of suffering could ever be fully portrayed on screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
